Local Wisdom and Young Children Development

Abstract

Local wisdom is the body of knowledge acquired from the accumulation of knowledge and experiences of people in the local area that has been transferred from generation to generation until it becomes a way of life that is an identity of each local area for solving problems and living the life of the local people.  Organizing activities for young children to learn about local wisdom surrounding will enable them to learn, appreciate and be proud of the local wisdom and their local area.  The local wisdom selected for the children to learn must be appropriate for their age.  It must be about concrete matters surrounding them and relating to their everyday life.  The teachers may utilize local wisdom in three ways, namely as learning resources, as knowledge providers, and as activities and learning media. The important considerations for organizing the activities are that they must be well-planned, with clear objectives that can be evaluated, and with diversified activities.
