Cultural Surveillance of People in Chiang Rai Province

Abstract
This research aimed to study important culture for surveillance, and activities of surveillance, of people in Chiang Rai Province. Qualitative methods were used to collect data for example interviews and group discussions of the key informants including representatives of government agencies and private sectors who involved with the cultural surveillance in Chiang Rai Province. The findings revealed that the 12 significant culture for surveillance included costume; respect to seniors; local language and literature; folk food; beliefs, religion and ritual; using traditional wisdom in the occupation; indigenous music and dance; virtue and ethics; arts; invention and role play; Lanna architecture; and traditions associated with Buddhism. The most important group to educate cultural surveillance showed that children and youth should be the top priority, then the elders. Engagement of government agencies, educational organizations, religious organizations, community organizations, as well as all media producers in cultural surveillance together with the cultural owners would achieve the sustainability. More important, roots of the nation culture must be urged for close observation in order to protect the magnificent culture of the nation, not lost and disappeared. The proposed activities such as teaching, seminar on traditional conservation relaying, rehabilitation, and arranging space to display should be involved all parties and the people in Chiang Rai Province.
