A Study of Prathomsuksa 5 Students Learning Efficient and Their Problem-Solving Skills on the Application Learning Unit Managed with the STAR Strategy Steps

Abstract

This research aimed 1) to study Prathomsuksa 5 students’ learning efficiency the lessons on “Application” 2) to compare their learning efficiency before and after the lessons, 3) to compare their learning efficiency after the lessons against the 70 percent criteria, 4) to study their problem-solving skills, and 5) to compare their problem-solving skills before and after the lessons managed with the STAR Strategy Steps. Research samples were 15 Prathomsuksa 5 students from Ban Nong Krathum School, Nong Boon Mak District under Nakhon Ratchasima Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 in the second semester of academic year 2013. Research instruments consisted of the 12 lesson plans. Data-collecting were a learning efficiency test and a Multiple Choice Question test form on problem-solving skills. Statistics used for data analysis were mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test.  Research findings showed that students who took the lessons managed with the STAR Strategy Steps had better learning efficiency scores with 9.20 points or 30.67percent higher. Their learning efficiency after the lessons was higher than before with statistical significance at the .05 level but not higher than the 70 percent criteria when the statistical significance was determined at the .05 level. Their scores on problem-solving skills were 2.73 points or 13.67 percent higher and problem-solving skills were higher than before with statistical significance at the .05 level.
