Sentua: Knowledge and Folklore Leading to the Creation of a Performance Series for the Conservation and Continuation of the Thai Song Dam (Lao Song) Culture

Abstract
The main objectives of this research were: (1) to study and collect folklore knowledge, traditions, and rituals of Sentua among the Thai Song Dam community; and (2) to create a performance based on Sentua to preserve and transmit Thai Song Dam cultural heritage. The participants included one ritual specialist or practitioner of Sentua and four community leaders, The qualitative research approach was adopted. Hence, the qualitative methods employed were in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. The thematic analysis method was used to analyze and synthesize the data collected from the fieldwork. The quantitative research approach data were analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation (S.D.), and content analysis. The findings revealed that: (1) knowledge of Sentua consisted of three main aspects: beliefs concerning the ritual, ritual components, and ritual procedures; and (2) the created performance entitled “The Charm of Thai Song Dam Sentua Culture” The performance was found to effectively transmit folklore knowledge through artistic creation, thereby contributing to the effort to preserve and transmit Thai Song Dam cultural heritage.
