Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the prevalence, experiences, and patterns of cannabis use, and predictors of cannabis use awareness among the elderly. The 560 respondents was obtained through multi-stage random sampling, while 40 interview participants was purposively selected. Data collection instruments included questionnaires and in-depth interviews. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression for predicting factors. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. Results revealed that the prevalence of cannabis use among the elderly was 22.70%, the primary sources of cannabis were neighbors (92.80%) followed by being given cannabis by grandchildren (34.30%). Cannabis was used while cooking (13.00%) and brewed as tea (11.10%). Regarding frequency, 26.50% use cannabis every other day. Overall, the level of awareness and cannabis-related health literacy was high, with mean scores of 79.85 and 103.18, respectively. Four variables predicted cannabis use awareness were information verification literacy (B = 0.675), information access literacy (B = 0.314), communication literacy (B = 0.286), and frequency of following cannabis information (B = 0.221), which collectively explained 36.80% (R2 = 0.368).
