This article reviews the book 'The Guardian of the Constitution: Hans Kelsen and Carl Schmitt on the Limits of Constitutional Law' translated and edited by Lars Vinx. The Kelsen-Schmitt debate exemplifies the profound application of competing legal and political theories to explain the relationship between the state, liberalism, and democracy. Vinx excellently provides the first English translation of this debate, and provides some interesting remarks valuable for anyone studying Thai public law.
