WHIPLASH: A CASE STUDY OF ACHIEVEMENT IN THE MAIN GOALS OF FILM EDITING

The most effective film editing is aimed to achieve 4 main editorial goals: the goal of elevating film aesthetic, the goal of narrative clarity, the goal of emotional emphasis, and the goal of revealing subtext. The film Whiplash, an Academy Awards winner in an achievement in editing 2014, is a great model for studying of how to apply editorial tools, techniques, and rules in order to achieve the 4 main goals. By completely achieving those purposes, Whiplash is valuable for both film editing practice and the film industry.
