The Development of an Integrative Group Counseling Program to Strengthen Growth Mindset of Faculty of Education Students

Abstract
This research aimed to develop and study effects of using an integrative group counseling program to strengthen growth mindset of Faculty of Education students. The research samples were 303 Faculty of Education students of Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University who were 1st – 3rd year students (18 years old and above) and studying in 4-year bachelor program in academic year 2021. The sample size was determined by Yamane’s error formula at the level of 0.05 (Yamane, 1970: 580-581). The research samples were selected by stratified random sampling, and the data of samples giving in growth mindset evaluation forms were collected by a logbook. The scores of growth mindset of the students were ranked from high to low level. The levels of growth mindset at 25th percentile down were selected and examined by researchers and advisers of groups of students. Furthermore, 16 students were asked to give the consent of participation, and they were divided into the experimental and control groups of 8 students each. The statistics used in this research were frequency, percentage, and F-test by one-way repeated measurement (ANOVA).
The result showed as follows:
- The integrative group counseling program to strengthen growth mindset of Faculty of
Education students was developed from the cognitive behavior modification theory and consisted of direct explanation technique, imagination technique, problem-posing technique, skill practicing technique, thought evaluation and adjustment technique, self-training technique, skill development technique, problem-solving technique, assignment technique, positive reinforcement technique, and other techniques of group counseling. The program was validated by 3 experts and was tried out before using with the samples. The steps of counseling consisted of 3 steps: initial stage, working stage and final stage.
- The average of growth mindset scores of the Faculty of Education students who received
integrative group counseling increased more than the control group at the statistical significance at the level of .05.
- After experimenting and following up, the average of growth mindset scores of Faculty of
Educations students who received integrative group counseling increased more than the control group at the statistical significance at the level of .05.
