Study of species and threat status of street trees in an urban landscape in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

A study of the species on street trees and threat status of street trees in an urban landscape in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The result showed that there were 29 species of 692 trees in Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality, including Polyalthia longifolia (The Mast Tree), Lagerstroemia floribunda (Bungor), Alstonia scholari. (White Cheesewood) and etc. were 306, 93, 56 and etc., respectively. There were 31 species of 533 trees in Thung Song Municipality, including Plumeria spp. (Frangipani), Lagerstroemia loudonii (Thai bungor), Cassia fistulas (Golden Shower) and etc. were 236, 67, 35 and etc., respectively. Threated status of street trees in the road landscape in Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality was considered, there were 17 species of trees with the moderate level of threats, and only 12 species of trees had low level of threat. There were 19 species of trees had moderate level of threats and 12 species of trees had low level of threat in Thung Song Municipality. The types of threated trees in Nakhon Si Thammarat Municipality were estimated. There were three causes from the lack of trimming which resulted in too heavy bushes, damages resulted from trimming by unskilled staff and problem in absorption of water and air were 4.17, 3.33 and 3.20, respectively. Moreover, the types of threats to the in trees in Thung Song Municipality were also estimated. There were three causes from the lack of trimming which resulted in too heavy bushes, damages resulted from trimming by unskilled staff and problem in absorption of water and air were 3.89, 3.37 and 3.13, respectively.
