Abstract
This article aims to compare the meaning of numbers in Grimm’s fairy tales and Thai folktales. The concept of folklore is used to explain type and connotation of numbers in folktales by asking questions about the appearance, the characteristic and the meaning of numbers. Then the similarities and differences in the meanings of numbers between Grimm’s fairy tales and Thai folktales are compared and explained using examples of the folklore. The results of this comparative study show that the meaning of numbers in Grimm’s fairy tales and Thai folktales are both similar and different. Comparative study of the meaning of numbers can help to better understand the way of life, culture and beliefs of German and Thai culture.
