การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาอนุภาคเหนือธรรมชาติที่เด่น ๆ ในนิทานเรื่องสังข์ทอง อนุภาคนี้แบ่งออกเป็น 3 กลุ่มคือ กลุ่มแรกได้แก่ตัวละครในนิทาน เช่น เทพเจ้า สัตว์แปลกพิสดาร หรือสัตว์โลกมหัศจรรย์ หรือมนุษย์ที่มีความแปลกพิสดาร กลุ่มที่สองคือวัตถุหรือสิ่งต่าง ๆ ซึ่งจะปรากฏอย่างสม่ำเสมอในการดำเนินเรื่อง เช่น ของวิเศษ ธรรมเนียมประเพณีที่ผิดไปจากปรกติธรรมดา ความเชื่อที่แปลกประหลาด และอื่น ๆ ในลักษณะเดียวกัน กลุ่มที่สาม คือเหตุการณ์เดี่ยว ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นและคงอยู่อย่างอิสระ ซึ่งทำให้เกิดอนุภาคขึ้นเป็นจำนวนมาก

ผลการวิจัยพบว่า นิทานเรื่องสังข์ทองเล่าเกี่ยวกับตัวเอกแบบเหนือธรรมชาติ ที่ได้เผชิญหน้ากับความแปลกประหลาดของโลกเหนือธรรมชาติ ทำให้เขามีคุณสมบัติและความสามารถใน การกระทำแบบเหนือธรรมชาติ ตัวเอกมีกำเนิดที่ผิดปรกติ และดังนั้นจึงถูกกำจัดออกจากบ้านเมือง มีสัตว์แปลกพิสดารและแม่ที่เป็นตัวละครเหนือธรรมชาติเลี้ยงดู เขาได้ปฏิบัติภารกิจที่ยากยิ่ง และเป็นไปไม่ได้ได้สำเร็จและได้เดินทางเพื่อค้นหาประสบการณ์ เขาแข็งแกร่งขึ้น มีรูปโฉมงดงามขึ้น และมีคุณค่ามากขึ้น เรื่องยังประกอบด้วยอำนาจเหนือธรรมชาติและความรู้ที่เหนือธรรมชาติ มีของวิเศษและการเน้นในเรื่องเหนือธรรมชาติอื่น ๆ ซึ่งแสดงว่ามนุษย์หลงใหลในการเดินทางผจญภัยซึ่งอยู่ในกรอบของความเหนือธรรมชาติด้วย นอกจากนี้นิทานเรื่องสังข์ทองยังแสดงให้เห็นความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างนิทานกับสังคม คือความเชื่อในสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติ กระตุ้นให้ผู้ฟังนิทานเกิดอารมณ์สะเทือนใจ เชาวน์ปัญญา และศีลธรรม นั่นก็คือนิทานจะชี้แนะ สั่งสอน และเร้าใจผู้ฟังนิทานให้ยอมรับการปลูกฝังจริยธรรมตามกฎเกณฑ์ของสังคมและมุ่งทำดีด้วยความเชื่อและความเคารพในสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาตินั้น 

Abstract

The purpose of this research project is to study the outstanding supernatural motifs in Sang Thong tale in three classes. First are the actors in the tale such as gods, unusual animals or marvelous creatures, or unusual human characters. Second are certain items in the background of the action such as magic objects, unusual customs, strange beliefs and the like. In the third place, there are sole incidents and these incidents comprise the great majority of motifs.

The study reveals that the Sang Thong tale tells about a supernatural hero’s encounter with the suprahuman world and his becoming endowed with qualities that enable him to perform supernatural acts. The hero is of abnormal birth and is banished for this reason. He is suckled by unusual animals and supernatural mother. After the performance of difficult and impossible tasks and quests, the hero becomes stronger and handsomer and more worthy of the prize he seeks. The supernatural power and knowledge, the magic objects and another supernatural focus show that the tale themes enter on man’s fascination with supernatural adventure.

The study also deals with the correlation between the folk tale and the society. It shows that the supernatural beliefs can stimulate the listener’s emotion, intellect and morality, that is it instructs and moves the listener of the tale. They can get the good results from the ethics in accordance with social laws.
