Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present several remarkable characteristics found in Ayutthata’s didactic literature hinged on three thai proverbial poems including Palee-Sorn-Nong, Tossarod-Sorn-Phra-Ram and Ratchasawat. The Palee-Sorn-Nong, an aphoristic code of conduct for being civil servants, is principles of serving the monarch for prosperous living. The Tossarod-Sorn-Phra-Ram a didactic message solely relevant to the king to reign over his realm, is how to take care of his subjects with mercy and justice. The Ratchasawat, a practical groundwork for those intimately in attendance on the monarch, is how to serve him with integrity and loyalty. All of these poems, in the same genre, reflect optimistic worldviews, cultivate people to behave morally and diligently, to concentrate on their bureaucratic duties, to be grateful, honest and confident in the golden mean of living their blissful lives. Besides the above-mentioned roles, in a nutshell, latently, the significant role of didactic literature is also artistically poetic.
