          Being able to review a literature is an important skill for any researcher. Literature review is an academic standpoint in which researchers locate themselves within wide and varied academic field. Literature review is to present the connection between the conducted research and other previous researches. The academic arguments raised from critical and reflective analyses would lead to logically sound research topics and research methods.   This article is intended to point out the importance and objectives of doing literature review for research proposals in communication field. The article is developed by studying academic works and previous researches that are related to ‘literature review’ and ‘communication research’. According to our analysis, it is found that the objectives of doing literature review for research proposals in communication can be divided into 4 categories: (1) to determine research problem statements, (2) to design conceptual framework, (3) to develop research design, and  (4) to expand the new knowledge by integrating literature from other fields. The examples of researches of different categories are included and explained.
