From Home to the Classroom: Early Childhood Care and Development in Thailand’s Culturally Diverse Context.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aims to 1) analyze the influence of culture on Early Childhood Care and Early Childhood development, and 2) propose strategies for connecting home and school in Early Childhood Care and development within the context of Thailand’s Culturally Diverse society to achieve inclusiveness, equity, and sustainability. The article presents conceptual frameworks from child development theories, Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, and multicultural education to explain the role of culture in Early Childhood Care in various contexts, such as ethnicity, religion, language, and local traditions. It also outlines practices for fostering education, Home-school cooperation, including designing learning activities that reflect culture, communicating with families with cultural understanding, and enhancing teachers’ capacity to provide learning that responds to diversity.
The study found that culture significantly influences Early Childhood Care and development in terms of ethnicity, religion, language, and local traditions, affecting caregiving patterns and children’s learning experiences. Furthermore, promoting education, Home-school cooperation, designing culturally reflective activities, communicating with families with cultural sensitivity, and developing teachers’ multicultural education competencies are key strategies for establishing an Early Childhood education system that is inclusive, equitable, and sustainable.
