Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the management and presence of
private art galleries in Bangkok, and to study the operations, problems and obstacles of
these art galleries in Bangkok in the context of contemporary Thai art and culture.
Qualitative research tools for data collection were in-depth interviews with owners,
collectors, staff, and artists involved in private galleries located in Bangkok. The
researcher chose the criteria for selection based on the age of the galleries: location
and size of the business, exhibitions and styles of art works, including prices of the art,
and the volume of visitors, as well as support for artists in various groups. The
researcher used the theory of organizational management as the main criteria,
presenting the results by descriptive analysis. The researcher found that the
development of private art galleries in Bangkok had been divided into 6 decades as
follows: the first decade from 2500 to 2510, the second decade from 2511 to 2520, the
third decade from 2521 to 2530, the fourth decade 2531to2540, the fifth decade from
2541 to 2550, and the sixth decade from 2551 to the present. The evolutionary history
of the art galleries followed one of two management styles, either using modern art
management or post-modern integration management.
