Predictive Factors of Traditional Herbal Utilities Among the Elderly in the Salung–Keelek Community, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province

The mixed methods research was used to investigate traditional herbal utilization among the elderly and determine the predicting factors toward elderly traditional herbal utilization. The sample in this research consisted of 177 older adults whose ages ranged between 60 and 95 years, in 8 stakeholders in the area of the Saluang-Keelek community, Maerim District, Chiangmai Province. The data was collected by questionnaires and non-structured interviews and was then analyzed by descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and content analysis. The results indicated that the factors that significantly influenced traditional herbal utilization of the elderly were age (Beta = -.144, p = .044) and perception toward traditional herbal utilization (Beta = .321, p = .000) at the 0.05 level. The total variance explained was 42.2%. In addition, the academic knowledge should be provided in herbal use among the elderly.
