Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivations Affecting Remote Working Efficiency during the Covid-19 Pandemic

Abstract

A study of motivation affecting the remote working efficiency during the COVID-19 pandemic was considered intrinsic and extrinsic motivation related working efficiency, additionally analyzed intrinsic and extrinsic motivation influencing the efficiency of remote working. Data was collected through an online questionnaire survey. The sample used for the data analysis consisted of 385 participants who were employed but worked from outside of their corporate offices. Descriptive statistics was used to explain the level of opinion. The results showed that the level of intrinsic motivation was at a high level, similar to the extrinsic motivation level, The top three-ranking motivators were supervisor, colleague, and work environment/technology. Multiple regression analysis was used in hypothesis testing, at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that:1. intrinsic motivation affects the remote working efficiency by 31.40 percent, 2. the extrinsic motivation affects the remote working efficiency by 40.70 percent, and 3. the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation both mutually affect the remote working efficiency by 40.70 percent. The findings indicated that intrinsic motivation has a greater influence on remote working efficiency than extrinsic motivation when the employees have to work at other locations than within the organization during the COVID-19 pandemic.
