Using the Synthetic Phonics Method on the Development of Read-Aloud Ability by English Words for Prathomsuksa 3 Students of Ketpichaiwitthaya School Saraburi Province

The objectives of this study were: 1) to compare English word read-aloud ability of Prathomsuksa 3 students of Ketpichaiwitthaya School Saraburi Province before and after learning by using the synthetic phonics method and 2) to compare English word read-aloud ability of Prathomsuksa 3 students of Ketpichaiwitthaya School Saraburi Province by using the synthetic phonics method with 75% of the criteria scores. The target group used in this study were 28 Prathomsuksa 3 students of Ketpichaiwitthaya School Saraburi Province. The used research instruments were 7 lesson plans based on the synthetic phonics method, English reading exercises, and pre-posttest on English word read-aloud ability. The data collected include: 1) the researcher assessed students' prior knowledge by using English word read-aloud ability pre-test; 2) the researcher taught them totally for seven weeks, using lesson plans based on the synthetic phonics method and reading exercises; and 3) the researcher conducted an English word read-aloud ability post-test to them. The statistics used in the data analysis included mean, percentage, standard deviation, and t-test dependent.
The results of the research showed that: 1. English word read-aloud ability of Prathomsuksa 3 students after learning by using the synthetic phonics method and reading exercises was significantly higher than the pre-learning at the .05, level and 2. English word read-aloud ability of Prathomsuksa 3 students after learning by using the synthetic phonics method and reading exercises was at 38.40 which is lower than 75% of the criteria scores.
