Perception process of visually impaired people: a case study of Chiang Mai University students

The purpose of this article was to study the perception process of visually impaired students in Chiang Mai University. The methodology was conducted by studying documentary research that related to human perception and people with visual impairment. Thus, data were collected from related documents as well as in-depth interviews with visually impaired students in Chiang Mai University. Data collected were then analyzed and presented through descriptive statistics. The results of this study indicated that in the perception process of people with low vision and those with blindness's sense of objects is acquired via touch and it is then processed by the brain, generating knowledge. People with low vision can perceive objects via some level of their vision, which is close to the way normal people perceive. In contrast, the perception level of those with blindness is not equal to that of normal people and those with low vision.
