Humans and the management of beliefs among diverse beliefs in modern society

Abstract

In modern society, human beliefs have become increasingly diverse and complex. This is because changes in economics, society, culture, science, and technology compel individuals to continuously face and adapt to varying belief systems, ushering in a 'multicultural' society. Consequently, managing beliefs is not merely about preserving the unique identity and distinctiveness of a group or individual; it is also a vital mechanism for fostering mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence, and conflict reduction within society. Studies on this issue indicate that humans employ diverse methods of belief management, including selection, adaptation, integration, and negotiation with different belief systems, to align with contemporary social conditions. Therefore, this article reflects on the role of humanity as the creator, preserver, and manager of beliefs within the context of an open and diverse society, ultimately leading to the development of mutual understanding and social peace in the future.
