The Justice in My Hero Academia

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the My Hero Academia by the theory of justice of Aristotle, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and John Rawls. The objective is to explore, analyze, and interpret the justice through the characters, situations, and societal structure within the story. The finding reveals that this comic reflects various dimensions of justice, such as determining eligibility and worthiness to become a hero based on “identity” (Quirk), which is linked to individual abilities; the use of technology overcomes natural limitations, such as support devices for those without special powers; and the acceptance of diversity in society through relationships between heros and individuals without identity. Additionally, it introduces the concept of the general will that reflecting decisions make for the collective good, amidst conflicts with the will of all, which focuses on the interests of specific groups. This dynamic is illustrated through the confrontations between heroes and villains, such as the League of Villains, who question the inequalities inherent in the hero system.
