THE CAUSAL STRUCTURAL RELATIONSHIP MODEL OF THE FLOOD DISASTER PREPAREDNESS BEHAVIOR OF CIVIL DEFENSE VOLUNTEERS

Abstract
This study aimed to validate the causal structural relationship model influencing on the flood disaster preparedness behavior of civil defense volunteers in Phetchaburi province. The research sample consisted of 340 civil defense volunteers. The research instrument had passed the construct validity verification by experts and had reliability coefficients between 0.80-0.90. Data were analyzed using the causal structural relationship modeling. The results showed that the causal relationship model was in harmony with empirical data (χ2 = 317.44, df = 83, p-value < 0.01, χ2/ df = 3.82, GFI = 0.90, CFI = 0.98, NFI = 0.98, RMSEA = 0.09, and SRMR = 0.03). The variables that had a direct effect on flood disaster preparedness behavior included flood disaster experience, self-efficacy on flood disaster preparedness, and perception of disaster risks, with coefficients of -0.88, 0.82, and 0.70 respectively. The variables that had an indirect effect on flood disaster preparedness behavior included self-efficacy on flood disaster preparedness, and attitude towards flood disaster preparedness, with coefficients of 0.49 and 0.30. In addition, the causal variables could be combined to explain the variance of the flood disaster preparedness behavior by 89 percent. Therefore, promotion of civil defense volunteers to have self-efficacy on flood disaster preparedness, risk perception disaster, and good attitude towards flood disaster preparedness is an important part of effective flood disaster management. This will lead to the prevention of loss of life and property.
