Beneficial Psychological Counseling Processes: Perspectives from Clients
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the beneficial psychological counseling processes from clients’ perspectives. A qualitative research design was employed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The participants were four students from Chiang Mai University, aged 20 years and above, who had previously received individual psychological counseling at the university’s counseling center. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews. The findings revealed that beneficial psychological counseling processes can be categorized into five aspects: (1) opportunities to share thoughts and feelings, (2) being listened to without judgment, (3) the development of self-awareness, (4) the acquisition of new perspectives that stimulated reflection, and (5) experiences extending beyond the counseling sessions. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how clients perceive the therapeutic process and the factors that support them in navigating periods of psychological distress.
