Western Music History Study: Origin of Music Notation

Abstract

                The purposes of this academic article was to propose the concept of a study on western music history focusing on the origin of western musical notation which is widely used in form of “Notation Alphabets” for music teaching and learning without attentively studying the origin of notation. Therefore, the lack of critical thinking, interpretation, and understanding possibly results on misbelief and misconception. It can be said that, notation can cause someone not exactly knows about what they are studying. This means that they only have superficial understanding with only some of knowledge about notation they obtain from studying western music history.

                 After studying the origin of western music notation, it was found that the origin of musical notation is related to Philosophy and Mathematics as well as in-depth information regarding the original background of music notation. The results of the study also provide understanding about different types of scales. Sounds of music can be appropriately tuned with ancient music instruments which have been continuously developed into music instruments in this modern age. Accordingly, we know that humans developed sound systems from the sounds in the nature leading to creative thinking and continuously turning to musical development for the evolution in the future.

                 บทความนี้เป็นบทความทางวิชาการ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อนำเสนอแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับการศึกษาประวัติดนตรีตะวันตกในเรื่องการกำเนิดของโน้ต ซึ่งคนส่วนใหญ่มักจะนำความรู้เรื่องโน้ตที่ “สำเร็จรูป” แล้วมาใช้ในการเรียนการสอนโดยไม่ศึกษาความเป็นมาที่แท้จริงของโน้ต ทำให้ขาดการคิดวิเคราะห์ตีความ ขาดความลึกซึ้งในเรื่องที่กำลังศึกษา อาจส่งผลให้เกิดความเชื่อและความเข้าใจที่คลาดเคลื่อนไปจากความเป็นจริง จึงอาจกล่าวได้ว่าความรู้สำเร็จรูปเหล่านั้นทำให้เรา “รู้ไม่จริง” ซึ่งเป็นการเรียนรู้แบบผิวเผินหรือเรียนแค่พอรู้ ซึ่งเรื่องราวต่างๆ เกี่ยวกับโน้ตสามารถหาคำตอบได้จากการศึกษาประวัติศาสตร์ดนตรีตะวันตก

                 หลังจากที่ได้ทำการศึกษาประวัติดนตรีตะวันตกในเรื่องการกำเนิดของโน้ตแล้ว ทำให้ได้ทราบว่าการกำเนิดของโน้ตเกี่ยวข้องกับปรัชญาและคณิตศาสตร์ ทราบถึงที่มาของโน้ตอย่างละเอียด ส่งผลให้เกิดความเข้าใจถึงระบบบันไดเสียงแบบต่างๆ การตั้งเสียงให้กับเครื่องดนตรีในยุคโบราณจนพัฒนาต่อเนื่องมาสู่เครื่องดนตรีในยุคปัจจุบันและทำให้ทราบได้ว่ามนุษย์ได้รู้จักพัฒนาระบบเสียงดนตรีจากระบบเสียงที่เกิดขึ้นตามธรรมชาติจนเกิดความคิดสร้างสรรค์และเกิดพัฒนาการทางด้านดนตรีเพื่อวิวัฒนาการในอนาคตข้างหน้าต่อไป
