Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) study the competitive advantage as a mediating variable between the innovation capability and the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises in the commercial sector in the lower northern region 1; and 2) study the impact of entrepreneurial orientation as a moderating variable between the innovation capability and the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises in the commercial sector in the lower northern region 1. This research was quantitative. The sample group was 600 entrepreneurs of Micro Enterprise’s trade sector in lower north 1. The multi-stage sampling method was used, and a questionnaire was used as the study tool. The model was analyzed using a structural equation model. The results found the competitive advantage was a partial mediating factor between innovation capability and performance at a statistically significant level of .001 . The results of the study of the relationship between innovation capability and performance with entrepreneurship orientation as a moderating variable found that entrepreneurship orientation was a moderating variable that promoted the relationship between innovation capability and performance. In other words, if small and medium-sized enterprises in the commercial sector gave importance to and practiced entrepreneurship orientation a high level, innovation capability would have a positive influence on performance at a statistically significant level of .05.
