Abstract

This qualitative research aimed to investigate the retention of English-speaking skills and the remaining problems in English-speaking skills among front desk staff at Loei Palace Hotel, Loei Province, after using a self‑learning media package. The participants consisted of all five front desk staff members of Loei Palace Hotel in Loei Province, including graduates from both English and non-English majors, selected using total population sampling. The research instruments included an English-speaking skills assessment questionnaire and a self-learning media package. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The results revealed that both groups of staff showed clear improvement and retention in English-speaking skills.  English-speaking problems decreased from a moderate level in the first assessment to a minor level in the second and third assessments. In addition, the staff demonstrated greater understanding of native speakers’ culture and used more appropriate nonverbal communication while speaking English.
