Development of The Local Language and Culture Curriculum of Phetchabun to Promote the Preservation of Thai Culture

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop a curriculum for language and local culture of Phetchabun to promote the preservation of Thai culture, 2) To compare the learning achievement on preserving Thai culture before and after studying by using the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun. The sample consisted of 30 students in Phetchabun Witthaya School, which were obtained by Cluster sampling. The research tool was the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun, the curriculum suitability assessment form and the Thai cultural tradition preservation form, totaling 30 items, had a difficulty value between 0.33 - 0.77, a discrimination between 0.30 - 0.94, and a reliability value of 0.96. The data were analyzed by averaging and standard deviation using t-test statistic (t – test Independent).

The results showed that the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun to Promote the preservation of Thai culture was overall appropriate at the most appropriate level. The mean is 4.64 and the standard deviation is 0.37. The local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun has 5 components: 1) the importance of the curriculum 2) the objectives of the curriculum 3) the curriculum structure has a total of 5 learning units, namely the history of Phetchabun, way of life of Phetchabun people, tradition and culture, legends and stories, important events and important people, 4) learning and teaching management process, and 5) assessment and the learning achievement on preserving Thai culture before and after studying by using the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun. It was found that the scores of students after studying using the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun was significantly higher than before studying using the local language and culture curriculum of Phetchabun at the .01 level.
