The Development of Reading Comprehension Ability in English For Mathayomsuksa 1 Students Through The Use of The Dr-Ta Teaching Approach

Abstract

Research on the development of English reading comprehension ability For Mathayom 1 students, through the use of the DR-TA teaching approach The purposes of this study were: (1) to develop the English reading comprehension ability for Mathayomsuksa 1 students using the Directed Reading-Thinking Activity (DR-TA) to an effectiveness criterion of 80/80, (2) to compare the English reading comprehension ability of Mathayomsuksa 1 students before and after implementing DR-TA, and (3) to study the satisfaction of Mathayomsuksa 1 students regarding the improvement of their English reading comprehension skills through DR-TA. The sample was selected by using the cluster random sampling in the second semester of 2023 academic year comprising 15 secondary students from Mathayomsuksa 1/1 at Samakkee Municipal School, Maha Sarakham province. The research tools included: 1) 12 lesson plans, 2) English reading comprehension tests use as pre and post-test It is a multiples choice test with 30 questions, 3) a satisfaction questionnaire. The statistics used were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the t-test (Dependent samples) for hypothesis testing. The results of the study were as follows (1) The efficiency of Learning Activities for English Reading Comprehension Using the Directed Reading-Thinking Activity (DR-TA) of Mathayomsuksa 1 students was 83.33/85.33, (2) The English Reading Comprehension of students after studying are higher than before studying in statistically significantly at .05 (3) The satisfaction of students Continue to Learning Activities for English Reading Comprehension Using the Directed Reading-Thinking Activity (DR-TA) of Mathayomsuksa 1 students was overall at high level. ( equation= 4.02, SD = 0.32)
