The author of this article centers his analysis on the main regional organizations and frameworks to which East Asian countries are party by looking at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the development of regionalism in Southeast Asia. The analysis is structured by examining ASEAN main regional integrative projects, namely ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) and ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). The author concludes by discussing the analytical virtues of studying Southeast Asian regionalism from an international political economy (IPE) perspective.
