The Effect of Isan Folk Games Activities on Preschool Children’s Basic Mathematical Skills, Buriram Rajabhat University Demonstration School.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to compare preschool children’s mathematical skills before and after implementing Isan folk games activities, Buriram Rajabhat University Demonstration School. This research was a quasi-experimental research design. The population in this research consisted of 82 preschool children, boys and girls, aged 4 -5 years old. They were in kindergarten 2 class in the first semester of the academic year 2021 at Buriram Rajabhat University Demonstration School. The samples were selected by using cluster random sampling technique from 1 classroom out of 3 classrooms, 34 students in all classrooms were similar. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it affected the school to be unable to study in normal classes. Therefore, the 15 preschool children were purposively selected from parents and children who voluntarily. The researcher experimented according to the research protocol by using a single experimental group. The one group pretest-posttest design was employed to measure before and after the experiment. The research instruments included 24 Isan folk games activities lesson plans, and the preschool children’s basic mathematical skills test. The samples did the pretest with regular instructions for 2 days, implemented the Isan folk games activities for 6 weeks, 4 days a week, 40 minutes a day, in total of 24 times, and then did the posttest after the experiment for 2 days.The statistical data was analyzed to verify the hypothesis by calculating mean, standard deviation, and t-test to compare preschool children’s basic mathematical skills before and after implementing Isan folk games activities. The result showed that after implementing Isan folk games activities, the preschool children’s basic mathematical skills was higher than before the experiment at the statistically significant difference at .05 level.
