Mae-Mai-Pleng-Thai : A Study of Representation in Rural Community

Abstract

This research aimed to study creating replaced images in rural community in positive traits and negative traits which was found in folk songs in the set of art of Thai songs The result of study was found that there was creating space of rural community to be Binary opposition which can show the behavior and concept of rustic players which had changed as per the condition of each area. There were 2 apparent traits which were 1) folk songs created replaced image in rural community in positive way by describing the character of Idealism. It was peaceful and nice place. The rustic players were described in the song and they had simple life by being sufficient and humble; moreover, their lives bond with nature. 2) folk songs created replaced images in negative way by mentioning about  poor area and problem of rural people such as disasters that directly affect lifestyle of people for 2 things which were draught and flood. Moreover, there were problem about economy and education in rural society and the rustic players who do role play in song were always built to be inferior than city people such as inferior education and poor status etc.
