MOTIVATION AND GOALS IN LIFE OF DHURAKIJ PUNDIT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PARTICIPATING DREAM AND COMMITMENT TO SUCCESS PROJECT

Abstract

The research aimed to compare students’ achievement motivation and their life goals before and after the participation in the Pursuing Your Goal Program. The study was conducted with a sample group of 400 Dhurakij Pundit University students who participated in the program. The samples were divided into two groups according to the students’ GPA. The first group of students had the GPA lower than or equal to 1.00 and the other had the GPA higher than 1.00. Purposive sampling was used and the research instrument was a questionnaire with rating scale questions, distributed before and after the program. Data was analyzed using percentage, mean and standard deviation.

The study revealed that the 68 percent of the participants were male and 32 percent were female. Both groups of participants were mainly from the field of humanities and social sciences, 78.50 percent in the first group and 72 percent in the second group. Only 21.50 percent of participants from the first group and 28 percent from the second group studied in the field of science.

The students’ achievement motivation and their life goals before and after the participation in the program were compared. The findings revealed that there was a difference between the levels of achievement motivation of the students from both groups. Similarly, there was a difference between the participants’ life goals from both groups before and after the program.
