RESEARCH – BASED LEARNING (RBL) IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Abstract

Research - Based Learning: RBL is a learning approach emphasizes on learning by practicing, learning from real situations, creating outcome from thinking process, functioning systematically, forming knowledge individually, using the research process to solve problems, eliciting answers from the query and analyzing the data on their own. This approach will inspire students to develop their potential in all areas. In addition, this approach is considered to be an alternative of the non-teaching lecture approaches. The goal is intentionally aimed at developing an individual learning process for students. This instruction approach has four forms: 1) teachers use the research findings in their teaching 2) students use the research results in their learning 3) teachers use research process as their teaching approach 4) students use research process as their learning approach.

The advantages of RBL are that the students are able to learn the research process and gain their subjects knowledge as well. However, the teachers must be qualified and experienced in conducting the research.
