Malaysia Multicultural Policy : Case Study of Malaysians of Thai Descent (Siamese People)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the history of Malaysians of Thai descent in Malaysia and to analyze the Malaysian government's management approach towards them under the Multicultural approach to Malaysian people of Thai descent. The researcher used secondary data collection methods, including textbooks, documents, academic articles, and information from the internet. The study found that the history of Malaysians of Thai descent (Siamese People) is associated with a history of interstate relations in the past. As a result, a large population was moved into the area. During that time, the British colonies sought territorial resources in Southeast Asia, which led to their interest in the Malay Peninsula. When the British colonies came to rule, the concept of modern state zoning was adopted in the area. After the demarcation of the two countries, problems occurred, especially for the population living in the area. The government of Malaysia needs to adjust its policies to reduce conflicts within Malaysia and to guide the cooperation of different ethnic populations in the country.
