Abstract

The purposes of this research were: (1) to study the background and the context of the Mong Suay Yee dance; (2) to study the composition and the choreography of the Mong Suay Yee dance; and  (3) to analyze the structure of the dance  movements of Mong Suay Yee as inherited from the Royal Hall of the Prince. The researcher studied the choreography from Mrs. Chanchira Inthaniwet, who has learned the dance from 3rd and 4th. A qualitative research methodology was used by studying books, texts, articles, related research, and by doing field work to practice the dance movements. Then, the data were collected and analyzed to summarize the findings. The results of the study are as follows: (1) The arrival of the Tai Yai people who were living in the state of Shan in Myanmar presented the Mong Suay Yee dance in Mae Hong Son city and was performed to the Thai Prince. Since then, this dance has been up to nowadays  to Mrs. Janjira Inthaniwet. (2) The Mong Suay Yee dance is performed by female dancers, who wear costumes inspired by the female attire of the Royal Court of Myanmar, accompanied by a tayaw horn music ensemble and following a choreography inherited from the female dancers of the Prince Hall, which consists of 8 main dance positions.  (3) The results of the analysis of the structure and choreography of  the Mong Suay Yee dance found that for the choreography, it was found that the way to use the head, the upper body, the hands and the feet is similar to the Burmese dancing style. For example, the jeeb position of the hands in the Burmese style, the arm placed in a circular position higher than the head, the way to step with the feet, etc. As for the body expression, it is found that there is a mix between the Burmese dancing style with the characteristic delicateness of the Tai Yai people when performing the Mong Suay Yee dance. Found that at present, the Mong Suay Yee dance of the Tai Yai people. To changed the role from acting in the Royal court to give pleasure to the Prince (King) is a show in response to the commercial tourism. And for the presistence of culture in an era of globalization.passed down from many generations
