Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze gender stereotypes that are found in Sookee's lyrics. Sookee is a German queer feminist rapper who raps against homophobia, racism, and sexism, which is reflected in her songs. This study aims to answer the following questions: (1) Which genders does Sookee mention in her songs?; (2) What are the characteristics of each gender?; (3) How does Sookee's life influence her lyrics and her opinion on sexuality? 26 songs from 7 albums were analyzed for this study. The results show that there are a total of 3 genders in her songs which are male, female, and quing (neither male nor female and both male and female). Stereotypes of men are diverse and are portrayed regarding violence, homophobia, misogyny, and patriarchy. Women are also described in terms of motherhood, discrimination, and feminism. Gender equality, homosexuality, and coming-out occur in quing. As a feminist, activist, and student in Gender Studies, Sookee has a queer understanding of gender. She made many campaigns for gender equality and feminism. Because of this, most of her songs are about gender justice.
