เราควรเรียกเงาะป่าในภาคใต้ของไทยว่าเงาะซาไกหรือ Should we call the tribal people in the Southern Thailand the Sakai?

บทคัดย่อ

ชาวพื้นเมืองหรือเงาะป่าที่อาศัยอยู่ในป่าทางตอนใต้ของประเทศไทย พบในจังหวัดพัทลุง ตรัง สตูล และสงขลาเป็นหลักนั้น คนไทยทั่วไปเรียกชาวพื้นเมืองเหล่านี้ว่า “เงาะซาไก” บทความวิชาการนี้ต้องการนำเสนอมุมมองที่แตกต่างให้เห็นว่า ชนพื้นเมืองหรือเงาะป่าที่อาศัยอยู่ใน          พื้นที่ภาคใต้ที่แท้จริงแล้ว เป็นชนเผ่านิกริโตหรือเซมังจัดอยู่ในกลุ่มนิกรอยด์ มีลักษณะที่แตกต่าง           หลายประการกับชนพื้นเมืองกลุ่มซาไกหรือเซนอยซึ่งจัดอยู่ในกลุ่มมองโกลอยด์อาศัยอยู่ใน           พื้นที่ตอนกลางของประเทศมาเลเซีย จึงไม่สามารถเรียกเงาะป่าที่อาศัยในประเทศไทยว่า             “เงาะป่าซาไก” ได้

The tribal people in the Southern Thailand or “Ngo-pa” are found living mainly in the forest in Phattalung, Trang, Satun and Songkhla province.  Thai people commonly call these tribal people the “Sakai”.  The study aims to provide different perspective on this tribe as the tribe living in the Southern part is actually the Nigrito or Semang tribe which related to racial classification of Negroid, not the Sakai which related to racial classification of Mongoloid.  Therefore, we cannot really call these tribal people in the Southern Thailand the Sakai.
