Internet and social media is changing traditional media to new media, including the effect of online newspapers on the printed newspaper industry in Thailand. Thai newspaper industry had adjusted its business model, process of production and journalism. It has also affected mass media and journalism curriculum in Thai universities, so universities need to
develop new media curriculum. University newspapers are changing from print newspaper media to online newspapers. In the past, university newspapers in Thailand were challenged by press freedom in universities. The Thai Reporters Association which became the Thai Journalists
Association (TJA) in 2000) created the %Pirab-noi Project( in 1993 to train students and support university newspaper award, which also improves university newspapers in Thailand. These encourage university newspapers to become successful. Nowadays, a new challenge to university newspapers is the online university newspaper. The Society for Online News Providers (SONP) and the Information Technology Press Club (ITPC) are interested in creating %University Online Newspaper Award,( like the successful Pirab-noi university newspaper award project.
