ภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤตมีอิทธิพลต่อภาษาไทยมานานนับพันปีแล้ว ปรากฏการณ์ที่ ทั้งสองภาษานี้ มีอิทธิพลต่อภาษาไทยเป็นผลสืบเนื่องมาจากการสัมผัสภาษา หลักฐานหนึ่งที่แสดงว่ามีการสัมผัสภาษาระหว่างภาษาไทยกับภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤตคือ การยืมคำ คำยืม ในภาษาไทยกว่าครึ่งหนึ่งเป็นคำที่ยืมมาจากภาษาบาลีและสันสกฤต คำยืมเหล่านี้ส่งผลต่อ การเปลี่ยนแปลงบางประการของลักษณะภาษาไทยทั้งด้านเสียง อักขรวิธี คลังศัพท์ การสร้างคำ การสร้างประโยค และสำนวนภาษา
Abstract
Pali-Sanskrit had influenced on Thai for around thousand years. This phenomenon is a result of language contact. Evidence proving the language contact between Thai and Pali-Sanskrit is word borrowing. Over half of the loanwords in Thai are borrowed from Pali-Sanskrit. The Pali-Sanskrit loanwords in Thai had effects on some changes of the Thai in the aspects of sounds, orthography, lexicon, word formations, sentence structures, and expressions.
