This survey research aims to (1) fnd out the factors of adaptive leadership, (2) study the level of adaptive leadership, (3) compare the levels of adaptive leadership as classifed by school size, and (4) study the guidelines for development of adaptive leadership of school administrators. The research sample consisted of 350 government teachers under the Secondary Education Service Area Offce 4 in Pathum Thani province, obtained by stratifed random sampling based on school size, and 8 school administrators. The tools of this research were a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire with reliability coeffcient of 0.980 and an interview form. Data was analyzed and processed by a statistical package program. Statistics employed for data analysis were the mean, standard deviation, analysis of variance, exploratory factor analysis by the principal component extraction method (Principal Component Analysis: PCA) with the signifcant level for hypothesis testing being pre-determined at .05 level, and content analysis. The results of this research were that (1) 4 factors of adaptive leadership of administrators were identifed and could be ranked based on their importance as follows: the achievement motivation, the personnel potential development, the teamwork, and the organizational culture, respectively; (2) the overall and specifc aspects of adaptive leadership of administrators were found to be at the high level and could be ranked as follows: the frst rank was the achievement motivation factor, followed by the organizational culture factor, the teamwork factor, and the personnel potential development factor, respectively; (3) the government teachers working in schools of different sizes differed signifcantly in their opinions toward the administrators’ overall adaptive leadership, the specifc aspect of achievement motivation and the specifc aspect of teamwork with the ,05 level of statistical signifcance; and (4) the guidelines for development of adaptive leadership of school administrators consisted of the policy on upgrading the level of professionalism of administrators and the policy on upgrading educational leadership of administrators. This research brought about
the knowledge on the characteristic of achievement motivation which was the key factor of adaptive leadership of school administrators leading to the effcient and effective development
of the organization.
