The purposes of this research were to study the level of emotional quotient of students, and to study the effects of using a program for developing emotional quotient upon emotional
intelligence level of the students. The research sample consisted of 24 students whose emotional quotient (EQ) scores, as measured by the Emotional Quotient Assessment Scale of the Department of Mental Health, were below the standard level. Then, all of them participated in a program for developing emotional quotient which consisted of six activities. After the experiment, they were post-tested with the same Emotional Quotient Assessment Scale. Data on general background of students in the sample were statistically analyzed with the frequency and percentage. The pre-test and post-test EQ scores of the students were compared with the use of mean, standard deviation, and t-test. Meanwhile, the researcher collected data on the students’ behaviors by observing their behaviors while participating in the activities; after completing the activities, the students were informally interviewed and required to provide feedback information by answering a feeling assessment questionnaire. Qalitative data were analyzed with content analysis.
The results showed that after participating in all of the six activities of the program, the post-experiment EQ scores of the sample group students were signifcantly higher than their pre-experiment counterpart scores in every aspect and every component at the 0.001 level of statistical signifcance.
