ENHANCING ENTREPRENEURIAL POTENTIAL WITHIN THE THAI-CAMBODIAN BORDER COMMUNITIES IN SURIN PROVINCE

Abstract
The objectives of this research were (1) to study the components of business management potential of entrepreneurs in the Thai-Cambodian border communities in Surin Province; (2) to develop the entrepreneurial potential of the Thai-Cambodian border communities in Surin Province; and (3) to propose development guidelines for enhancing the potential of community entrepreneurs suitable for the local area. This research uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative tools include in-depth interviews and group discussions involving community entrepreneurs who lead the group and the members who mobilize the community enterprise group as key contributors. The quantitative tool was a questionnaire to ask a purposively selected sample of 108 Thai-Cambodian border community entrepreneurs. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis, and quantitative data were statistically analyzed using the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, measurement model analysis, and accuracy and reliability analysis.
The results of the research showed that (1) the business management potential component of entrepreneurs in the Thai-Cambodian border community in Surin province consisted of 7 components: (1.1) planning and production (l = 0.932), (1.2) finance and accounting (l = 0.826), (1.3) distribution (l = 0.855), (1.4) group management (l = 0.594), (1.5) production control (l = 0.791), (1.6) moral ethics (l = 0.800), and (1.7) family labor (l = 0.791); (2) regarding the development of entrepreneurial potential of Thai-Cambodian border communities in Surin Province by organizing workshops on delivery of goods using parcel delivery services, it was found that community entrepreneurs obtained knowledge and ability to analyze in choosing the right parcel delivery service that could be clearly applied in operation; and (3) regarding development guidelines for developing and enhancing the potential of community product entrepreneurs suitable for the local area, it was found that the development guidelines for developing and enhancing the potential of community product entrepreneurs suitable for the local area were as follows: the development of delivery by providing knowledge and understanding of the systems of various transport companies; the development of planning and recording of business data in order to use production forecasts more accurately that could be used to systematically plan community resource links and business activities; the development of young entrepreneurs by inspiring and nurturing families to support and encourage youths in the community to love their homeland; and the development of networks to create business collaboration, e.g. in the exchange of raw materials or goods, cooperation of production, distribution and transportation, and the exchange of knowledge and wisdom in order to develop and enhance the potential of community product entrepreneurs.
