Main Article Content
Abstract
The purposes of this study are to investigate the condition of self-management of the students in order to develop a self-management skill development kit for the students and to experiment and evaluate the results from applying the kit to the students of private higher education institutions. The initial samples were as follows. The students selected for investigating the condition of their self-management skills were 341 first-year students of the institute. The samples for experimenting with the self-management skill development kit were the first-year students studying in the Chinese Education Program in the Faculty of Education and the Agricultural Innovations Program in the Faculty of Agricultural Innovations. There were 85 final samples. They were sampled with the stratified sampling method with nine levels according to their faculties, and then sampled with the simple random sampling method. The data collection tools were
1) a self-management questionnaire for the students, 2) a self-management skill development kit, and 3) an evaluation form for the results from using the kit.
Results are as follows:
1. The self-management skills of 341 first year students, in terms of the inter-personal relationship and learning management, are in the good level while they in the moderate level in terms of health, time and financial management.
2. The efficiency of the self-management skill development kit for the students is 80.15/84.00; thus, meeting the 80/80 efficiency criterion.
3. The means of the self-management skill development of the students, after using the kit, are higher than those before using the kit with the statistical significance level of .05. The development of students’ self-management skills takes 3 steps: 1) providing knowledge; 2) putting knowledge into practice; and 3) examining the results.
