A STUDY OF THE LIFELONG LEARNING CHARACTERISTICS IN THE 21ST CENTURY AND THE LIFELONG LEARNING CHARACTERISTICS OF CONFUCIUS IN THE ANALECTS OF CONFUCIUS

Abstract
This research article aims to investigate the lifelong learning characteristics in the 21st Century and the lifelong learning characteristics of Confucius in the Analects of Confucius. It is a qualitative research using document analysis method. The scope of the research includes studying the Thai translated version of the Analects of Confucius, documents, and related research works. Data analysis was conducted according to the conceptual framework by analyzing the content linkage. The study has found that the lifelong learning characteristics of Confucius in the Analects of Confucius contain explicit teachings about the lifelong learning characteristics of the characters in all 23 chapters. When all chapters are classified based on the conceptual framework of lifelong learning of people in the 21st Century, it is found that the lifelong learning characteristics of Confucius in the Analects of Confucius are based on the Learning to Know characteristics as their foundation. Additionally, the lifelong learning characteristics of Confucius in the Analects of Confucius can be divided into five characteristics and the chapters in which they are found as follows: (1) Learning to Do, which appears in 4 chapters; (2) Learning to Live Together, which appears in 4 chapters; (3) Learning to Be, which appears in 3 chapters; (4) Learning to Realize, which appears in 10 chapters; and (5) Lifelong Learner, which appears in 2 chapters. The results of this research lead to the discovery of the essence of creating characteristics that one should have in lifelong learning that is the important foundation in developing lifelong learning and developing people to become lifelong learners.
