INFLUENCE OF RESILIENCE AND PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT ON WORK ENGAGEMENT OF EMPLOYEES IN A RETAIL COMPANY

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to study: 1) the relationship between resilience and  perceived organizational support, and work engagement of employees in a retail company;  and 2) the influence of resilience and perceived organizational support on work engagement  of employees in a retail company. The sample was consisted of 152 employees. The collected  data from the questionnaires, which were validated for content by experts, were tested with  a sample of 30 individuals. The item-total correlations were between .310 and .898, and the  reliability coefficients were between .887 and .959. The data were analyzed using the percentage,  mean, maximum value, minimum value, standard deviation, Pearson’s product-moment  correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results of the study revealed  that: 1) resilience was moderately and positively correlated with work engagement (r = .506);  and perceived organizational support was highly and positively correlated with work engagement  (r = .734); and 2) the aspect of struggle to overcome the obstacles of resilience and perceived  organizational support had positive influential effects on work engagement by 58.30%  (R= .583), which was significant at the .001 level. The multiple regression equation in raw score  form was WE = .713 + .280 (RES_P) + .527 (POS)
