Abstract

This research article aims to study: 1) work engagement; 2) operational effectiveness; and 3) the relationship between work engagement and operational effectiveness among local government employees in Phanat Nikhom District, Chonburi Province. A quantitative cross-sectional research methodology was employed, with data collected through questionnaires from 220 local government employees using multistage sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that overall work engagement was high (equation= 4.08), with dedication showing the highest level (equation= 4.22), followed by vigor (equation= 4.04) and absorption in work (equation= 3.99). Overall operational effectiveness was at the highest level (equation= 4.38), with job competence showing the highest level (equation= 4.26), followed by work achievement (equation= 4.08). Work engagement demonstrated a significantly positive correlation with operational effectiveness at a high level (r = .630, p < .01), indicating that work engagement is an important factor for operational effectiveness, with dedication showing the strongest correlation. The findings align with international research, which indicates that employees who are highly engaged demonstrate superior operational effectiveness. Therefore, managers should promote work engagement, particularly dedication, create environments that foster vigor, and encourage employees to experience absorption in their work.
