THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CIVIC ENGAGEMENT MEASUREMENT MODEL FOR THAI YOUTH

This paper aims to study factor analysis and to develop a measurement model for civic engagement among Thai youth. The samples in this study, collected using the multi-stage random sampling method, consisted of 928 first year Bachelor’s degree students from 4 universities in Bangkok metropolitan area and vicinity.
The results found that there were 3 factors and 8indicators in the measurement model for civic engagement among Thai youth. The first factor was behavioral and derived from civic efficacy, group/organization membership, civic willingness, and civic participation. The second factor was affection, derived from community and political connections, and civic awareness. The third factor was cognition, derived from civic knowledge, and civic attitude. Furthermore, the results indicated that the measurement model for civic engagement among Thai youth fit with the empirical data. (Chi-square = 14.116, df= 9, p = .118, GFI = .991, AGFI = .966, SRMR = .022, RMSEA = .037)
