APPLICATION OF PARTICIPATORY LEARNING PROCESS FOR CLASSROOM CHATTING REDUCTION

Abstract
The purposes of this study were 1) to compare the effect of two learning processes, Lecture-based learning and Participatory learning (PL), on the reduction of classroom chatting behavior of students and 2) to examine the relationship between Participatory learning and student’s academic achievement. The study was conducted on undergraduate freshman for total of 29 students who registered in the subject ‘Principles of Food Processing’. PL designed course syllabus, chatting behavior collected form and pre-test/post-test exam papers were used as the major instruments. Simple descriptive analysis and t-test were applied. The finding of this research showed that classroom chatting could be reduced by applying PL in the class. The energetic activities such as games, interactive competitions, multimedia visualization, flipped classroom and quiz promoted a good environment for the classroom, enhanced a deeper learning of students which improved their academic achievement.
