LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT MODEL FOR MANAGING HOTEL BUSINESS IN THE THAI-LAO BORDER PROVINCES

Abstract
The purposes of this research are 1) to study the elements of transformational leaders for hotel business administration and management in the border province areas of Thailand – Laos; 2) to create a model for development of transformational leaders for hotel business administration and management in the border province areas of Thailand – Laos; and 3) to evaluate the developed model for hotel business administration and management in the border province areas of Thailand – Laos. The research sample comprised three groups: 1) the group of 400 hotel business executives and section heads; 2) the group of 5 experts for verifying the completeness of the drafted model; and 3) the group of 17 experts and specialists on hotel business administration for evaluation of the appropriateness and feasibility of implementing the model for development of transformational leaders for hotel business administration. Statistics used in data analysis included the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.
Research findings are as follows: 1) The 7 identified important elements affecting transformational leadership for hotel business administration and management in the border province areas of Thailand – Laos are as follows: (1) having far and wide vision, (2) adaptability to cope with change, (3) having good human relationship, (4) ability to create inspirational motivation, (5) being an exemplary role model, (6) employee development, and (7) provision of supports for teamwork. 2) The results of the creation of a model for development of transformational leaders for hotel business administration and management in the border province areas of Thailand – Laos show that the created model is complete at the highest level. 3) The results of evaluation of the created model in terms of its appropriateness and feasibility show that the created model is appropriate at the highest level in every aspect; as for the feasibility of implementing the model for development of transformational leaders for hotel business administration, it is found that the feasibility of implementing the model for actual practice is at the highest level in two elements, namely, that of being an exemplary role model, and that of the ability to create inspirational motivation, while other elements are feasible for implementing at the high level, respectively.
