THE MICRO BUSINESS MODEL OF RETIREES INDUSTRY IN BANG PHLI DISTRICT SAMUTPRAKARN PROVINCE

Abstract

The purposes of this study were (1) to study the general condition of retirees from industry sector in Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province; (2) to study opinions of retirees from industry sector on running the micro business; (3) to study the appropriate micro business model; and (4) to propose the micro business model for retirees from industry sector. The research sample for the quantitative study consisted of 327 retirees living around industrial factories in each sub-district of Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province; while the key informants for qualitative research were 35 persons. The employed research instruments were a questionnaire and an in-depth interview form. The quantitative data were statistically analyzed using the frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The qualitative data were analyzed with content analysis leading to the synthesis of main research results. The research results indicated that the majority of retirees from industrial sector were females, with secondary education level, with the end of employment contract status, with the work duration as the industrial employee of 16-20 years, with the experience in the industry as a skill worker, and with the work experience in the metal products industry. The status of employment after retirement was that of informal workers, with the average monthly income after retirement of 3,001-9,000 baht. The source of income after retirement was from working. They were the main income earner of their family and they would like to have a job. The main reason for having the post-retirement income was to alleviate the financial burden of the family. The type of business that they wanted to do was the commerce business, both online and offline. Their overall opinion toward the micro business was at the high level (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.48). When their opinions toward specific aspects of micro business were ranked from top to bottom based on their rating means, it was found that the aspects that their opinions were at the high level were that of promotion and supports of micro business (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.83), that of the knowledge on success factors of micro business (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.63), and that of technological knowledge for doing micro business (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 3.58); while the aspect that their opinions were at the low level was that of the motivation and inspiration for doing micro business (gif.latex?\bar{x} = 2.88), respectively. The results of the study of suitable micro business model affecting the achievement of retirees from industrial sector were the following: the having behaviors with the intention to study, seek and create the body of knowledge that they have aptitude for doing business; the use of technological instruments for creating smoothness in doing business; and
the having networks to promote and support the strength of doing business.
